It’s well known that I am and have always been a day one Nike girl. However, there is one common misconception that’s been toying my mind. That is: People automatically assume that because you are a “Nike girl” this must mean you’re athletic, but what they’re forgetting is Nike’s stylistic appeal from a fashion perspective.
Athleisure was created for this sole reason. It’s the fashion trend that derived from athleticism without, well, having to be an athlete. The casualization of sportswear speaks to my perpetual favorite attribute in fashion: comfort.
The SF AF-1 MID is one of my favorite recent silhouettes that directly coincides with my style. Urban utility is a trend I’ve been touting on the runway for quite some time now, but regardless of it’s urban aesthetic, these sneakers have something even greater: functionality. For someone who’s constantly on the go, a sneaker that is comfortable and stylistically edgy will always be my go-to.

Meet Cotton Citizen, Los Angeles’s hottest athleisure brand of the moment. If there’s one must for summer, it’s a comfortable and versatile two-piece set. I’ve been tracking this celebrity-approved brand for quite a while and can sense from the energy it emits that it’s soon to be ubiquitous. I love this brand because it knows that the modern-day woman has a whole assortment of tasks she juggles throughout a day, so something that’s eccentric and functional can be immensely important. There are so many elements to this brand’s aesthetic that I adore: It’s funky yet minimal, and comfortable while remaining on trend.
Additionally, each of its garments uses innovative wash treatments, timeless silhouettes, and top-quality fabrics. Oh, and let’s not forget my favorite part of the brand: its exclusive monochromatic color stories. Currently, they feature blazing neon colors, fitting for S/S 17. As some of us following the runway trends know, this summer is all about the ’80s neons. Basically, the brand knows what it’s doing. From garment to cut to color, Cotton Citizen will keep you looking cozy and chic all at once. Keep this brand on your radar!

Finding balance in life always seems to be an eternal struggle, whether it’s life, work, or simply choosing what to wear in the morning. It gets tough out there, ladies, I know! Side note- Yes this post is about balance, and no it’s not because of my insanely high platform shoes.
When I talk about balance, what I mean is simply balancing your wardrobe low-end to high-end. And no, to have a beautiful and versatile wardrobe does not mean designer pieces are required. Finding balance is up to each individual person and how they interpret their own personal style. No one else but you can dictate what works best for you. Well, unless you’re Bella Hadid and have 5 different celebrity stylists. If you’re Bella Hadid, I want you to know it’s okay. For me, balance is about finding a harmonious blend between high and low which comes simply if you follow a few of these tried and true tips:
First off, I love to explore new brands and labels. I don’t care if only ten people have heard of it; newness is key. I also prefer to go vintage shopping because they don’t make ’em like they did before, and that’s a fact. A tip for everyone out there: if you can’t afford designer pieces because they’re not enough bang for your buck (or too much buck for the bang), I would try going to your local thrift stores and scope out what they’ve got. Fashion is always cycling back in, and runway tends to look towards previous decades for inspiration, so 9 out of 10 times you will likely be able to find something that is a one of a kind. Besides, the “Zara effect” won’t be worrying you since x, y and z are most definitely not going to have the same vintage item as you. And lastly, yes, I do love blending in some designer goods and that just stems from my deep roots of loving runway and studying fashion.
This particular look is an ode to vintage. I recently went vintage shopping and came across this gorgeous green silk mock neck dress. As soon as I saw the dress all the bells and whistles started to go off, I had to pair it with my recently purchased Vanessa Mooney red tassel earrings. I for one happen to love red and green together, Christmas or not. Lastly, to tie the entire look together I opted for these Gucci platform sneakers. One, I love sneakers, and two, platforms are everything right now as I mentioned in my last post.

Reflecting on life is something I do often as of late. This year has been incredible for me considering we’re only a few weeks in. Who What Wear nominated me as their 2016 street style “rising star” in the fashion industry. I’m not sure exactly what this means to myself or others, but I’m honored that my efforts and dedication to this passion I have are being recognized. Opportunities in life take you places and I’m just starting to see where I’m headed. I have a vision, dreams and goals. You set yourself apart from people when you actively chase these desires, rather than sitting on the sidelines. I’m confident in my second skin, I know where I’m headed.

Denim jackets remain an American fashion classic. Granted my “American” inspired denim jacket was made in France by A.P.C., one of my personal favorite brands especially for denim. A.P.C. does denim like no other company, the detailing and fit is impeccable, if you aren’t familiar I suggest you check them out.
I’ve coupled my denim jacket with a jumpsuit that is pretty much a staple in my closet. If there is something in your closet you are constantly drawn to wearing, try pairing it with something different each time for an alternate look. The most successful fashion trend-setters are constantly recycling clothing and disguise it by the way they style something from the time before.

A neutral color palette is one you can always be confident in. Colors like these compliment each other, and other colors exceptionally. Not only do they go well with other neutrals, but they are unmatched in the way they appeal to the eye. Always a safe bet.
I wore this particular look to work. Typically, one might say “how on earth does someone wear something this casual to work?” But when you work at KITH, sneakers are imperative, and I’m not one to complain. No matter what you wear, you have to feel comfortable. Otherwise, what’s the point? And no worries; if your job doesn’t allow you to wear something like this to work, you can always make it work as a weekend outfit.
I’m wearing nude Nike Air Max 1 Patch sneakers, and a Fear of God olive green bomber from KITH. I chose to wear all black underneath to make the neutrals stand out. The top and bottom are both thrifted.
With the Spring season knocking on our door, we here at OSS are strapping into full gear. And by strapping, I mean into our shoes! As it starts to get warm you know what that means, LEG and more leg. Time to pull the razors out from retirement, lather up in coconut oil and most importantly slide into Springs hottest shoes. Our editors have rounded up the top trends strutting down the runways during fashion month and we are happy to share our Spring 2016 must-have shoe shopping guide. Some of our favorite shoe trends include: Sneaker Fever, Mad for Mules, Lace Me Up, and Slipper Slides.
We’re going mad for mules with this particular Spring shoe trend, first seen on the most happening runway shows and now finally hitting the streets. Mules are coming in hot with bright Spring colors, prints, suede, and of course hardware details. Mules are perfect for any occasion, day or night, and that’s why we’re obsessed!
This year we swapped our Spring fever for sneaker fever and it’s hitting us hard! That means pastel colors including pinks and mint greens seen by Acne Studios and Common Projects. In addition to brighter colors we are seeing suedes, metallics, and tons of hardware making a comeback. Most noteworthy and an OSS favorite are Tommy Hilfiger’s slingback SS16 sneakers with unique color embroidery stitching details.
The latest trend in fashion we’re seeing is lazy, comfortable, and relaxed. We’re moving away from the overly done glitz and glam and moving towards the everyday on-the-go gal. There’s no better way to achieve that look than sliding into some chic slippers.
Lace-up shoes have continued to make its way into Spring 2016 with some new and improved updates. It seems that these shoes are almost becoming a staple for the Summer. The lace-up shoe comes in a variety of styles, high heels, chunky heels, flats etc.
So there you have it! Take these tips and make this Spring one to remember.

Street style is absolutely critical in fashion these days, as it influences what designers decide to put out in runway collections. Designers are becoming more and more inspired by millennial trends, picking up on what trendsetters are wearing in the streets and in the hottest fashion hubs. And no it’s wonder why street fashion is blowing up, as it’s easy to find, and comfortable as hell! Seriously, who wants to go out and face the day in something they can’t get down and dirty in?
This look was inspired by the hustle and bustle within the streets of New York City, the place I’m grateful to call home. Living among the day-to-day action that’s always a part of city-life means that dressing for the unexpected is a must. For example, someone who has to walk as much as I do is bound to be entirely in love with the sneaker. Sneakers are an imperative staple in any street-casual look. All the realest are rocking them.
For my very own street look, I’m taking it back to the basics: a white-T and jeans. My t-shirt is by Comme Des Garçons play from Barneys, the Cargo Jeans are from Zara, and the cheetah print sneakers (which, by the way, are my new obsession) are from Vans. Shop similar here.
