Rocawear

Few feelings compare to getting your hands on a vintage piece you’ve been coveting for a long time. I’ve been coveting the nineties feel-good era of fashion since, well, the nineties. After thoroughly digging through archives on reseller platforms (eBay, Poshmark, Heroine etc.) I finally came across this rare throwback Rocawear zip up at, wait for it, Salvation Army… in mint condition.

With today’s current political climate, everyone needs an anchor, or something that brings them back to the good times — an escape from all this cultural anxiety that comes with the lightning-fast change of the now. For me, that’s fashion. Things weren’t as complicated as they’ve become. I turn to familiar silhouettes, styles and brands. This isn’t anything groundbreaking, but it puts me at ease. Oh, and it’s sustainable.

Being sustainable and watching your footprint on earth is something every one of us should consciously work on. In America, where rampant consumerism is at an all-time high, it’s important to try and take steps toward engaging with our earth in less harmful ways. An easy way to do so is by shopping vintage and cutting down on excess spending.

Okay, rant over. Back to the look. It’s as easy as a wife beater, solid denim, sneakers and slicked back hair-do. Don’t you miss when things were simple?

Summer Color Story

Summer is easily my least favorite season in terms of fashion. Wardrobe becomes stale; minimal effort and monotonous looks become the norm. Differentiation gets pushed to the back burner as everyone turns to their trusted summer go-to’s: cut off shorts, tanks, and tees. Steering away this dryness is pivotal. I always find myself asking the same things during the season: how to look distinctive while dressing comfortable and avoiding dying in the heat (cue easy breezy beautiful Covergirl).

While Summer has its disadvantages – heat and lackluster clothing come to mind – there is a positive takeaway. Color can finally rise to the place that it deserves. Summer and color are a perfect match. When you’re struggling to find anything worth getting excited about it in terms of style, turn towards the basics: color blocking and pairing as an accessory of its own.

I’m wearing a Loéil two piece I stumbled upon while scrolling my Instagram feed. As soon as I saw it I knew it had to be mine IRL. The color was bright, but not too bright, bold, but not too bold. Just perfect if you ask me. I purchased it of course no regrets here. What I admire most about the set is the silhouette, the drape and the flow. I decided to go the color blocking route and paired them with my newly bought pink pirate sandal by Céline from their Fall/Winter 17 collection.

Try a different approach to dressing up in the Summertime, even if it may seem unconventional to start pairing with colors. This is the Summer of color. Embrace it.

Urban Concrete

DSC05819DSC05977DSC05762DSC05739DSC05749DSC05865DSC06077DSC05710DSC05901DSC06024

As some may or may not know, fashion trends often derive from ones surroundings. People tend to pick up inspiration from the world around them, unintentionally, and incorporate it in their fashion without even knowing.

This particular look was inspired by the city that surrounds me and makes me feel my finest, the concrete jungle. It is quite difficult to be uninspired by a city so great, with it’s deep cement gray tones, textured concrete walls and cobble stone roads. Not only is the place I call home the inspiration behind this look, but also an emerging influence within culture and art

My top is a collaboration piece by New York based contemporary artist KAWS and Uniqlo. Vest is from People’s Market, Denim is from Acne Studios and shoes are from Maison Margiela.

How to Do Neutrals the Right Way

IMG_9220IMG_9223IMG_9222IMG_9221IMG_9225.JPG

A neutral color palette is one you can always be confident in. Colors like these compliment each other, and other colors exceptionally. Not only do they go well with other neutrals, but they are unmatched in the way they appeal to the eye. Always a safe bet.

I wore this particular look to work. Typically, one might say “how on earth does someone wear something this casual to work?” But when you work at KITH, sneakers are imperative, and I’m not one to complain. No matter what you wear, you have to feel comfortable. Otherwise, what’s the point? And no worries; if your job doesn’t allow you to wear something like this to work, you can always make it work as a weekend outfit.

I’m wearing nude Nike Air Max 1 Patch sneakers, and a Fear of God olive green bomber from KITH. I chose to wear all black underneath to make the neutrals stand out. The top and bottom are both thrifted.

Head to Toe V-files

My personal style is always evolving. I think that is part of the beauty in fashion. I love that I can wear something one day and something entirely different the next. For example, Rihanna can dress head to toe in a grunge goth outfit and then the next day she can pull off her sweet pretty-in-pink Rihanna aesthetic. Prime example is her latest music video for work which by the way is impeccable if you haven’t already seen it. Now I’m no Rihanna, but I do think we should all channel our inner ‘Rihanna’ and dress without boundaries.

Somedays I love my vintage threads and other days I love embodying more urban styles. I constantly find myself torn between the two, which isn’t how it has to be. You don’t consistently need to wear one thing for it to be yours. Yes, many people have signature looks, or pieces that we associate with them. But maybe incorporate that particular piece with a different look or style. Try to explore the fashion boundaries we sometimes confine ourselves within. No one is forcing you to portray yourself in one uniform way.

For this look I ditched my vintage mom jeans and traded in my cowboy boots for shadow greys. I’m wearing a head to toe V-files look, with the exception of my thermal underneath, partially because it was freezing outside! Whenever I put an outfit on I get consumed in the story behind the look or who this girl is. So I decided to take this look to the streets, quite literally, and do a shoot in a jungle gym and on the courts. Whenever I put something on I always want to showcase a version of myself. Even if it’s something you wouldn’t normally wear, I want to encourage you to take risks and just wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

The Lip Kit Kylie Has Everyone Talking About

landscape-1448878488-kylie-jenner-lip-kit.jpg
via: Cosmopolitan

After much anticipation my Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit has FINALLY arrived in the mail! These lip kits have every girl refreshing Kylie’s website waiting for the sold out lipsticks to restock. This purchase was a guilty pleasure of mine. I really wanted to see what the hype was behind the lipstick and liner duo. Kylie Jenner originally launched three colors which was her grand debut, and after the success of that she launched an additional three colors. It currently comes in 6 colors Dolce K, Mary Jo K, Candy K, Koko K, True Brown K, and Posie K. It is also said that she has many other beauty products in the works, including nail polish.

Truthfully I was a bit skeptical of the product when placing my order, but I love makeup so it wasn’t quite the risk it could have been. I happened to be on the website by accident (I know) right before she announced her lip kits were on sale and was able to snag three, Posie K, Mary Jo K and Dolce K. I was relieved once they were in my cart and five minutes later Kylie announced they were out on her social media accounts and bam, they were instantly sold out.

Once they arrived, the first thing I noticed was packaging, which was done exceptionally well. Each Kit comes with a lip liner and a liquid matte lipstick. The Lip liner’s had creamy consistencies. I wasn’t a huge fan of the lip liners to be honest, there wasn’t a significant difference between colors that liners should have. But the liquid matte lipstick changed the game. I had never used a liquid matte lipstick but as soon as I put it on my entire world was turned upside down.  The lipstick glided right on and dried within minutes, leaving a perfectly smooth, matte finish. Overall I was pretty satisfied with my purchase and I can’t wait to see what other products she comes out with, and good luck to everyone trying to snag these kits.

FW ’16 Runway Beauty Trends: Glitter & Grunge

Saint Laurent via Elle
Saint Laurent Via: Elle

As we come to a close end with NYFW, a lot of emerging trends have made quite an impression on the runways. Yes, of course the fashion itself was to die for, and just as striking were the number of beauty bombshells. Some major beauty trends were spotted this year and we just can’t wait to try them all out. Glitter and Grunge are two completely different genres of beauty yet we saw them morphed together into one legendary look. As we take notes from top designers these are a few major trends harmoniously blending glitter and grunge together, taking it to the next level, leaving us all blown away by the ingenuity in these looks.

Grunge:

Nicholas Kirkwood, Á Moi, Tadashi Shoji, and Puma by Rihanna brought back a smoked out punk look whether around the eyelids or a classic full dark lip. Smoked out shadows are back and grunge goth lips are in, so ladies don’t retire your black lipsticks just yet.

Glitter:

V-files brought a whole new definition to glitter incorporated beauty this Fall. Who would have thought the sought out ombré trend would make a comeback so quick.

Glitter & Grunge:

Saint Laurent did an impeccable job sending out rock n roll babes, with glittery smoked out eyeshadow. Mix these two beauty trend directions together and we get a fun new edgy way to wear our makeup. After all winged liner and red lips gets tiring some times. Spice up your look and try out this seasons hottest beauty trend; glitter and grunge.

As you are all aware New York Fashion Week has come to an end. It feels too soon like it always does, but at least I’ll finally be able to get some sleep. Although it’s been super crazy with the all the excitement, I was lucky enough to have time in my schedule to meet the lovely blogger Maria Alia. It’s always such a thrill to meet someone with the same predisposition as you. It’s delightful how all fashion bloggers and people in the industry get to meet up and exchange ideas and thoughts during fashion week. It’s a fantastic hub for likeminded people who all love fashion. Maria and I were running from show to show and had the idea of doing a little shoot together on blogger style. So we decided it would be fun to put together two fashion week looks that we could wear on the go. When hopping from show to show it’s very important to remain comfortable while  at the same time appearing fashion forward especially when you don’t know how the unpredictable NYC weather will treat you. Rain or shine, looking your best during fashion week is imperative, you never know if you’ll be stopped for a photo or who you might run into. We thought to ourselves what better way to do a shoot than on a New York City rooftop, to really capture that urbane city street style. We were both feeling neutrals and all black, after all, you can never go wrong with black on black. Let us know what you think!

Big shout out to Matthew for the photos.

NYFW Spring 2016 Top Designers

New York Fashion Week Spring 2016 Top Designers

As New York fashion week comes to a wrap and London fashion week kicks into full gear, the excitement and anticipation continues to advance on what’s coming down the runways next. This year I had such a pleasure going to some amazing shows. However, after thoroughly analyzing all the runway shows, with much difficulty I had to narrow it down to my top few designers. For those of you who missed out on some of the action, here is a recap of all my favorite noteworthy shows:

rodarte

Rodarte

This seasons Rodarte collection was inspired by the romantic interpretation of what being a poet could mean in Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s world. The runway gave way to retro seventies and eighties vibes with a romantic twist infused with ruffles, lace, paisley, disco beaded suits, and velvet blouse sleeves. Tons of vintage vibes were apparent throughout the show in addition to crystal earrings, metallic heels, neckties, and of course huge puffy Mongolian fur.

proenza

Proenza Schouler

The Proenza Schouler boys pulled through once again this Spring, with a jaw-dropping runway show, consisting of intricately crafted designs that truly brought the runway to life. Proenza adopted a Spanish vibe this year with careful attention to specifics like ribbons, feathers, structural ruffles, mesh, asymmetrical cut outs, pom poms and off-the-shoulder details. To say the least, the show had a little of everything and really exuded hot modern Latin romance.

givenchy

Givenchy

Riccardo Tisci marked his tenth anniversary at Givenchy with the release of one of the most anticipated fashion shows this year. He delivered a sophisticated array of garments in a tuxedo color palette and softened it up with provocative, yet inviting, lingerie inspired details. Under the gaze of the Manhattan sky, and of almost every fashion conscious New Yorker, paraded tailored suits, silk robes, and lace details. These fragments all came together, showcasing movement first and foremost.

calvin klein

Calvin Klein

Calvin Klein welcomed spring with a refined and polished approach, playing off of his contrasting tones of dark vs. light. His collection contained a harmonious balance of soft minimalism and dark grunge, themes helped along by his use of loose fitting garments, satin slip dresses, and elongated sleeves. Continuing the concept Francisco Costa added a saturated and unsaturated floral print across trenches, pants, and dresses.

lim

3.1 Phillip Lim

This season Phillip Lim did not disappoint  delivering a beautifully tailored runway show consisting of pale, organic neutrals derived from earthy elements. In honor of his 10th anniversary Lim took his romanticized garments and added an edgy twist with a hint of sporty flair, by making full use of pops of leather, stripes and floral prints.

altuzarra

Altuzarra

Altuzarra channeled his Basque roots this season, parading the runway with a variety of culturally vibrant festival colors. He took a rather nonchalant direction with his clothing, which included relaxed and loose fitted garments such as shirt dresses and side-slit skirts, and he tied it all up by emphasizing the waist. He coupled his relaxed and easygoing fabrics with simple design details like pleating, buttons, ties, belts and dip dyes.
