Skincare for the Night

Nighttime Skincare 1.jpgNighttime Skincare 2.jpg

Under the shine of the moon, my skincare routine transforms from light and fun to heavy-duty critical. Products become thicker, results become noticeable. As promised, I owe you all a look into the kaleidoscope I call my nighttime skin routine.

Recently, I took over Brydie Beauty’s Instagram account to spread the Our Second Skin nighttime skin regimen. As I was going live, I noticed questions pouring in and I wasn’t able to answer them all which (fast forward) is why I’m here.

Well, enough beating around the bush I’m just going to dive right in. If you don’t already know, I have dry-to-combo skin. It depends on seasons, but lately, my skin has been a little drier than usual so if you need some extra moisture for your skin, continue reading.

Dior Life Oil To Milk Cleanser

I have the full range of Dior cleansers and let me tell you they make them for all skin types. So if this one has too much moisture for your liking, try a different make — Oil to Milk, Lotion to Foam and Micellar Milk. They’ve basically got you covered on the skincare spectrum oily to dry to combo. As I said before, my skin has been on the dry side so the Oil to Milk cleanser has been a critical step in removing all my makeup and excess dirt at the end of the night. The almond oil activates once you massage it into the skin and add in some water. It’s incredible because there’s no oil residue or oily sensation on your skin once you’ve finished using it.

Chanel Hydra Beauty Essence Mist

I don’t even know where to start on this mist…It’s life-changing. I carry it with me everywhere, mist it before and after I apply makeup, before I go to bed and when I wake up. You can LITERALLY use it wherever, whenever. Just be prepared to get some looks while spritzing away on the subway.

Goop Perfecting Eye Cream

On the top of my list of favorite eye creams, you’ll find Gweneth Paltrow’s Goop Perfecting Eye Cream. Scratch that, you’ll find all of their products.  You can use this in the morning or night, I use it for both. Just apply a small amount (a little goes a long way), I’m super paranoid about wrinkles and fine lines if that doesn’t apply to you: Skip this step!!

Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream

The crème de la crème of Creams. Sometimes a bit of science and stem cell technology can be good especially when you have the help of an expert. The formula behind this cream intensely hydrates and replenishes the skin using Argan oil, Vitamin E, antioxidants and fatty acids. Let me tell you, once I got my hands on this cream, it eliminated the use of any extra products. Worth the price, if you’re looking for a simple routine use a cleanser + The Rich Cream at night and you will see a noticeable difference in your skin.

Tata Harper Beautifying Face Oil

If you have dull or rough skin this oil is perfect for you. When I don’t want to use a cream or lotion before bed, in lieu of the cream, Tata Harper’s products save my skin. An incredibly light-weight oil, could be the product you need to energize and revitalize your skin throughout the night.

The Captivator

This energizing mist doesn’t have anything to do much with my skincare routine, but more so for calming and relaxation purposes. Since mental health is one of the most toll-taking factors on your skin, I decided to throw this product in the mix. I kid you not, every night before I go to bed I spray relentlessly in the air and let the mist trickle onto my hair, my pillows and skin. The scent is an intoxicating mix of Sandalwood, Sage and Neroli. An instant sense of relaxation easily overwhelms you and puts you right to bed. This anxiety-reducing spray is worthy of taking up the most premier real estate on your bedside table.

That completes the Our Second Skin tried and true. Let us know your thoughts and if you’d like to learn more feel free to shoot the OSS team a message.

What Glossier’s Skin Solution Did For My Face.

skin solution.jpg

A couple of months ago, I received an email from Glossier’s team regarding a confidential, never-released-before product, asking if I wanted to test it out for four weeks prior to release. Naturally, I said yes, because who in their right mind wouldn’t want to try the cult-favorite beauty brand’s newest product? I was a little hesitant at first because, 1. My skin isn’t acne prone so I wondered if I should really be using something that might potentially trigger acne, and 2. The product is chemical based which meant it has acids in it which also freaked me out. Nevertheless I decided to run with it.

My initial thoughts when I received the package were obviously on packaging. Needless to say, the millennial in me wanted everything to post a photo on Instagram, but had to resist. Okay, no more on packaging, bottle etc. Let’s get down to business. My skin type is pretty dry, red patches, hyper pigmentation and all that jazz. The solution contains three acids Alpha Hydroxy (AHA), Beta Hydroxy (BHA) and Polyhydroxy (PHA), which are not to be intimidated by,  because in the long run these three acids will single handedly transform your skin routine.

Glossier Skin Solution (2).jpg

Week 1

My first reaction to the product was strong/intense smell, burning on face (this may just be because my virgin skin has never used any chemical acid-based products before). My face felt sticky after and not in a good hydrated,  “I need to wash this off of my face way”. But don’t get scared just yet. I hadn’t seen instant results the first week of using it but decided to keep the ball rolling.

Week 2

By the second week of using it, I had gotten used to the sensation on my skin and it actually felt really great. Since I started using the product during winter time, my skin was already really dry, so I complimented my solution with a deeply hydrating moisturizer after applying it to my skin with a cotton round. By week 2 I could already feel my skin getting cleaner, and redness fading away. The exfoliation was working.

Week 3

By week 3 I had decided this would continue to be a part of my skin regimen even after I was done testing it. Small breakouts would clear away from my skin almost immediately and I actually saw physical dead skin coming off my face. My skin texture felt softer than ever, the redness was reduced; my skin looked healthy and glowy.

Week 4

My standards for this product were proved wrong. I’m not sold on products that easily-my skin is very low maintenance (god bless) and using intense skincare products disturbs my routine. But I have to say, the solution showed physical results. My blemishes were zero to minimal, my skin was actually glowing (so many of my followers were asking me what I was using but I couldn’t tell them) but alas here is my secret: Glossier’s Skin Solution. My skin is thanking you @glossier for allowing me to be a part of this journey. Hope this review helps, let me know if you try the product and what your thoughts are on it.

The crux of the matter is that styling has changed dramatically. Focus on individual statement pieces for a not-so-loud yet simplistic root. A total of three pieces can transform your look, all depending on how you adapt to them.

Statement boots and non-conventional button down top all by my current favorite (Bella-Hadid approved) designer, The Situationist. This Georgian underground label emulates Vetements in their design aesthetic. Except, unlike Vetements, it’s hip and on the radar. Don’t get me wrong Vetements has set precedents that fashion will always follow, but I’m tired of seeing these hackneyed items on x,y, and z. However, there is a fresh quality about a new brand that stirs up excitement in my heart. I love supporting smaller designers, especially when you know they are going to be the next big thing. Good luck getting your hands on it!

It’s a simple formula anyone can follow: Vintage jeans + statement boots + button down. It may seem elementary but when it comes down to it, styling is key. Slicked back hair and dewy face makeup with deep charcoal liner is essential. Also this look is so versatile and perfect for basically any situation. The Situationist.

Modern Americana

Denim jackets remain an American fashion classic. Granted my “American” inspired denim jacket was made in France by A.P.C., one of my personal favorite brands especially for denim. A.P.C. does denim like no other company, the detailing and fit is impeccable, if you aren’t familiar I suggest you check them out.

I’ve coupled my denim jacket with a jumpsuit that is pretty much a staple in my closet. If there is something in your closet you are constantly drawn to wearing, try pairing it with something different each time for an alternate look. The most successful fashion trend-setters are constantly recycling clothing and disguise it by the way they style something from the time before.

Street-Casual

Brooklyn PhotoshootNYC Street StyleBrooklyn Street StyleComme Des Garcons Play T

Street style is absolutely critical in fashion these days, as it influences what designers decide to put out in runway collections. Designers are becoming more and more inspired by millennial trends, picking up on what trendsetters are wearing in the streets and in the hottest fashion hubs. And no it’s wonder why street fashion is blowing up, as it’s easy to find, and comfortable as hell! Seriously, who wants to go out and face the day in something they can’t get down and dirty in?

This look was inspired by the hustle and bustle within the streets of New York City, the place I’m grateful to call home. Living among the day-to-day action that’s always a part of city-life means that dressing for the unexpected is a must. For example, someone who has to walk as much as I do is bound to be entirely in love with the sneaker. Sneakers are an imperative staple in any street-casual look. All the realest are rocking them.

For my very own street look, I’m taking it back to the basics: a white-T and jeans. My t-shirt is by Comme Des Garçons play from Barneys, the Cargo Jeans are from Zara, and the cheetah print sneakers (which, by the way, are my new obsession) are from Vans. Shop similar here.

Get Your Hands on the Hottest Nail Phenomenon Yet

SPRAY ON NAIL POLISH

If you’re anything like me (which I hope not) you’d know I’m terrible at painting nails. Lucky for those of you who aren’t gifted in the nail department, things just got a whole lot easier!

We here at OSS are all jumping for joy over the new spray on nail polish can first introduced by Nails Inc. and now by the edgy makeup company, Milk. Just like spray paint all you have to do is spray the can of nail polish on your nails, it’s that EASY. This product applies so effortless, you can forever say goodbye to bubbles and streak marks that normal nail polish tend to leave.

The application processes is sweet and simple. The Perfect Transitional Dress for any Weather

DSC_9203DSC_9205DSC_9279

Here in America clocks have officially been set forward, signifying that Spring has finally sprung. Birds are chirping, flowers are slowly blooming, and the weather is warming up. This temperature change can cause some serious indecision, especially while leaving the house in semi-questionable looks, but fear not. We have found the perfect transitional dress for the Spring/Summer; the Maxi dress. Now some of you may be thinking, “a maxi dress! There’s no way I’m wearing that until it’s 80 degrees out” and that’s where you’re mistaken. The Maxi was proven a predominant trend on the Spring 2016 runway, there were a plethora of designers sending their models down the runway in a Maxi dress which can easily be layered up and layered down.

The most important factor when it comes to wearing the Maxi dress is how you style it. The weather during spring time can be completely unpredictable from sunny highs to windy lows, so it’s important to layer up. You can throw on a denim jacket, a light scarf, and some boots onto your dress allowing you to easily adjust to sweltering sunny mornings, and chilly brisk nights. And when the summer comes take your dress, throw on some strappy sandals and call it a day.

For my own transitional Spring look, I am wearing a dress from Reformation, they have a great selection of dresses perfect for any occasion. I paired my maxi with a light turtle neck, a vintage scarf, and some black knee high boots. Maxi’s are a fun way to showcase your own personal style and add some flair to any plain dress, there are endless options on what you can do with it, so have fun!
