Leather seems to be finding its way into my wardrobe these days, one way or another and I’m not mad about it. However, if you ask me to wear just any moto jacket my answer would most likely be a hard no, with the exception of my Arrivals jacket. I can’t resist the gorgeous Petrol color it comes in and of course, the fur lining that keeps me nice and toasty. It’s been one of my most consistent and trusted pieces in my closet this entire winter season.
Leather + more leather is always a good idea in the “unofficial” Our Second Skin rulebook. I’m all for a statements these days and what’s a better statement than leather squared? I paired my jacket with what was my favorite pair of boots — or should I say pants — until I ripped them completely. I got these boot/pants from Tamara Mellon at the time and was incredibly hyped about them, as the pant/boot combo was something I hadn’t seen before.
Word of advice: don’t try to shoot them in bizarre angles. These boots are badass, that is, until you rip them completely. Hopefully I’ll be able to recommend a pair that doesn’t split in the near future. But until then…Stay tuned for more leather on the blog and more editorials, because your girl’s all about it.

Rocawear

Few feelings compare to getting your hands on a vintage piece you’ve been coveting for a long time. I’ve been coveting the nineties feel-good era of fashion since, well, the nineties. After thoroughly digging through archives on reseller platforms (eBay, Poshmark, Heroine etc.) I finally came across this rare throwback Rocawear zip up at, wait for it, Salvation Army… in mint condition.

With today’s current political climate, everyone needs an anchor, or something that brings them back to the good times — an escape from all this cultural anxiety that comes with the lightning-fast change of the now. For me, that’s fashion. Things weren’t as complicated as they’ve become. I turn to familiar silhouettes, styles and brands. This isn’t anything groundbreaking, but it puts me at ease. Oh, and it’s sustainable.

Being sustainable and watching your footprint on earth is something every one of us should consciously work on. In America, where rampant consumerism is at an all-time high, it’s important to try and take steps toward engaging with our earth in less harmful ways. An easy way to do so is by shopping vintage and cutting down on excess spending.

Okay, rant over. Back to the look. It’s as easy as a wife beater, solid denim, sneakers and slicked back hair-do. Don’t you miss when things were simple?

What Glossier’s Skin Solution Did For My Face.

skin solution.jpg

A couple of months ago, I received an email from Glossier’s team regarding a confidential, never-released-before product, asking if I wanted to test it out for four weeks prior to release. Naturally, I said yes, because who in their right mind wouldn’t want to try the cult-favorite beauty brand’s newest product? I was a little hesitant at first because, 1. My skin isn’t acne prone so I wondered if I should really be using something that might potentially trigger acne, and 2. The product is chemical based which meant it has acids in it which also freaked me out. Nevertheless I decided to run with it.

My initial thoughts when I received the package were obviously on packaging. Needless to say, the millennial in me wanted everything to post a photo on Instagram, but had to resist. Okay, no more on packaging, bottle etc. Let’s get down to business. My skin type is pretty dry, red patches, hyper pigmentation and all that jazz. The solution contains three acids Alpha Hydroxy (AHA), Beta Hydroxy (BHA) and Polyhydroxy (PHA), which are not to be intimidated by,  because in the long run these three acids will single handedly transform your skin routine.

Glossier Skin Solution (2).jpg

Week 1

My first reaction to the product was strong/intense smell, burning on face (this may just be because my virgin skin has never used any chemical acid-based products before). My face felt sticky after and not in a good hydrated,  “I need to wash this off of my face way”. But don’t get scared just yet. I hadn’t seen instant results the first week of using it but decided to keep the ball rolling.

Week 2

By the second week of using it, I had gotten used to the sensation on my skin and it actually felt really great. Since I started using the product during winter time, my skin was already really dry, so I complimented my solution with a deeply hydrating moisturizer after applying it to my skin with a cotton round. By week 2 I could already feel my skin getting cleaner, and redness fading away. The exfoliation was working.

Week 3

By week 3 I had decided this would continue to be a part of my skin regimen even after I was done testing it. Small breakouts would clear away from my skin almost immediately and I actually saw physical dead skin coming off my face. My skin texture felt softer than ever, the redness was reduced; my skin looked healthy and glowy.

Week 4

My standards for this product were proved wrong. I’m not sold on products that easily-my skin is very low maintenance (god bless) and using intense skincare products disturbs my routine. But I have to say, the solution showed physical results. My blemishes were zero to minimal, my skin was actually glowing (so many of my followers were asking me what I was using but I couldn’t tell them) but alas here is my secret: Glossier’s Skin Solution. My skin is thanking you @glossier for allowing me to be a part of this journey. Hope this review helps, let me know if you try the product and what your thoughts are on it.

Basics Redone

‘Tis the season to feel good about putting absolutely zero effort into dressing up. Yes, you read that right. Comfort over fashion has always been the motto for me (no shocking news here). There’s absolutely no sense in looking good when it’s brick outside, which is why it’s time to enlighten you on how you can shop to keep yourself cozy through this winter season.

With the current over-saturation in streetwear and brands/merch, I’ve been experimenting with going back to the basics by stepping away from logos and redundant graphics. Perhaps this has something to do with my recent trip to ComplexCon a revelation that every kid in SoHo is wearing the same T-shirt — regardless, I’m over it. Give me a hoodie in a monochromatic colorway plus sweats and I’m straight. I know a solid hoodie isn’t a revelation at all, but it still feels refreshing, especially when contrasted with the uniformity we’ve all been seeing on our respective feeds.

Anyways, check out Aritzia’s simple basics; you’ll be sure to find something that does it for you. And for those not quite ready to let go of logo-ing: Kith is eternally the spot-of-the-moment.

It’s well known that I am and have always been a day one Nike girl. However, there is one common misconception that’s been toying my mind. That is: People automatically assume that because you are a “Nike girl” this must mean you’re athletic, but what they’re forgetting is Nike’s stylistic appeal from a fashion perspective.

Athleisure was created for this sole reason. It’s the fashion trend that derived from athleticism without, well, having to be an athlete.  The casualization of sportswear speaks to my perpetual favorite attribute in fashion: comfort.

The SF AF-1 MID is one of my favorite recent silhouettes that directly coincides with my style. Urban utility is a trend I’ve been touting on the runway for quite some time now, but regardless of it’s urban aesthetic, these sneakers have something even greater: functionality. For someone who’s constantly on the go, a sneaker that is comfortable and stylistically edgy will always be my go-to.

Summer Color Story

Summer is easily my least favorite season in terms of fashion. Wardrobe becomes stale; minimal effort and monotonous looks become the norm. Differentiation gets pushed to the back burner as everyone turns to their trusted summer go-to’s: cut off shorts, tanks, and tees. Steering away this dryness is pivotal. I always find myself asking the same things during the season: how to look distinctive while dressing comfortable and avoiding dying in the heat (cue easy breezy beautiful Covergirl).

While Summer has its disadvantages – heat and lackluster clothing come to mind – there is a positive takeaway. Color can finally rise to the place that it deserves. Summer and color are a perfect match. When you’re struggling to find anything worth getting excited about it in terms of style, turn towards the basics: color blocking and pairing as an accessory of its own.

I’m wearing a Loéil two piece I stumbled upon while scrolling my Instagram feed. As soon as I saw it I knew it had to be mine IRL. The color was bright, but not too bright, bold, but not too bold. Just perfect if you ask me. I purchased it of course no regrets here. What I admire most about the set is the silhouette, the drape and the flow. I decided to go the color blocking route and paired them with my newly bought pink pirate sandal by Céline from their Fall/Winter 17 collection.

Try a different approach to dressing up in the Summertime, even if it may seem unconventional to start pairing with colors. This is the Summer of color. Embrace it.

Meet Cotton Citizen, Los Angeles’s hottest athleisure brand of the moment. If there’s one must for summer, it’s a comfortable and versatile two-piece set. I’ve been tracking this celebrity-approved brand for quite a while and can sense from the energy it emits that it’s soon to be ubiquitous. I love this brand because it knows that the modern-day woman has a whole assortment of tasks she juggles throughout a day, so something that’s eccentric and functional can be immensely important. There are so many elements to this brand’s aesthetic that I adore: It’s funky yet minimal, and comfortable while remaining on trend.

Additionally, each of its garments uses innovative wash treatments, timeless silhouettes, and top-quality fabrics. Oh, and let’s not forget my favorite part of the brand: its exclusive monochromatic color stories. Currently, they feature blazing neon colors, fitting for S/S 17. As some of us following the runway trends know, this summer is all about the ’80s neons. Basically, the brand knows what it’s doing. From garment to cut to color, Cotton Citizen will keep you looking cozy and chic all at once. Keep this brand on your radar!

Shedding of The Trench

IMG_0993.JPGIMG_0994.JPG.jpeg

There comes a time and place in everyone’s winter wardrobe when it’s time to put to rest your favorite seasonal pieces. Yes, the familiar ones you’ve been dragging around and swaddled in all Winter. As Summer approaches a farewell is in order to all of those, even for us too hesitant to pack up the prized goods. It’s not goodbye, but as one might say rather a parting. For me, this means letting go of my beloved winter statement piece: the leather trench.

The ‘Shedding of the Trench’ is the moment when you’re holding on by all means to your favorite winter garment and it’s just time to let go. Most can  probably relate. Summer (my least favorite season) is here, which to me is a huge let down. Not because of the weather outside or the time period; mainly just because of the elementary clothes and forgive me if you disagree. Summer is so straightforward think: denim cutoffs, floral dresses and sandals. BORING. Fashion seems cyclical every year during the Summer, whereas the Winter is completely fresh. That’s an objective fact. A look feels incomplete if there aren’t several pieces attached or elements elevating the entire look.

So here it is, my final post (hopefully, if you’re lucky) embodying my favorite Winter-Spring transitional trend: the leather trench. A transitional way to ease into the summer. Shed the trench and underneath you’ll find a vintage sleeveless turtle neck, AGOLDE denim jeans and vintage sling back heels. Colors are key here; pops of color and soft floral prints make great for a shift into brighter tones and loud patterns.

The crux of the matter is that styling has changed dramatically. Focus on individual statement pieces for a not-so-loud yet simplistic root. A total of three pieces can transform your look, all depending on how you adapt to them.

Statement boots and non-conventional button down top all by my current favorite (Bella-Hadid approved) designer, The Situationist. This Georgian underground label emulates Vetements in their design aesthetic. Except, unlike Vetements, it’s hip and on the radar. Don’t get me wrong Vetements has set precedents that fashion will always follow, but I’m tired of seeing these hackneyed items on x,y, and z. However, there is a fresh quality about a new brand that stirs up excitement in my heart. I love supporting smaller designers, especially when you know they are going to be the next big thing. Good luck getting your hands on it!

It’s a simple formula anyone can follow: Vintage jeans + statement boots + button down. It may seem elementary but when it comes down to it, styling is key. Slicked back hair and dewy face makeup with deep charcoal liner is essential. Also this look is so versatile and perfect for basically any situation. The Situationist.
